Around 3.30 a.m. on Sunday, a pair of thieves broke into two State Bank of India ATMs in the Karimnagar district of Telangana, targeting machines in Durshed and Thimmapur. Using gas cutters, they forced open the vaults and walked away with Rs 8 lakh from the Durshed ATM; the amount taken from the Thimmapur unit has not been disclosed.
CCTV footage captured the raid, showing the suspects—wearing caps, spectacles, gloves and masks—spraying a liquid on the cameras at Durshed before the theft. Police identified a female participant from the video and traced a Maharashtra‑registered vehicle used by the duo, reviewing toll‑plaza recordings to locate it. Special investigation teams have been formed and two separate cases registered.

The attack adds to a spate of ATM burglaries across Telangana, including a May incident in Mahabubnagar where thieves stole Rs 2.30 lakh after a seven‑minute gas‑cutter operation. Authorities say the pattern is straining police resources, prompting regular coordination meetings with bank officials to strengthen ATM security.
