The Telangana government issued a Government Order on Thursday to create the Telangana Traffic Management, Road and Rail Safety Bureau (TG‑TMARS). The agency is placed under the Telangana State Police and will be headed by an officer of the rank of Additional Director General of Police or Inspector General of Police as Director, reporting to the State Road Safety Council chaired by the Chief Minister and under the administrative control of the Director General of Police.
TG‑TMARS will handle traffic management, enforcement, highway patrolling, road‑crash investigation, enforcement analytics, prosecution and the policing of rail travel safety across the state’s more than 32,000 km of roads and a registered fleet of over 1.8 crore vehicles, which are facing growing congestion and accident challenges.

The bureau will operate through two wings—Traffic and Road & Rail Safety—each led by a Joint Director. By unifying the previously separate traffic wings of police commissionerates and districts under a single command, the bureau aims to standardise technology, training, analytics and review processes, delivering scientific traffic management especially in the Core Urban Region.
