Officials of the Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) identified a private hospital in Sahakaranagar during a footpath encroachment clearance drive covering the NH‑7 stretch from Kodigehalli Gate to the Mall of Asia. The inspection revealed that the hospital was permitting patients and the public to park on land owned by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Investigators reported that the hospital not only allowed the unauthorised parking but also collected parking fees, further aggravating the misuse of public space. The encroachment narrowed the footpath, forcing pedestrians onto the road and raising safety concerns. Despite prior warnings to the hospital administration, the illegal parking continued, prompting BNCC to levy a ₹1 lakh fine and order an immediate cessation of the activity.

The penalty is part of a broader municipal effort to reclaim pedestrian zones that have increasingly been occupied by private enterprises, street vendors, and commercial entities. While the hospital has not issued a public statement, BNCC officials warned that repeat violations could attract harsher sanctions, and NHAI officials have been asked to monitor compliance on the highway corridor.
