The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) issued an alert after a patient was hospitalised with a torn oesophagus, having taken a counterfeit product believed to be the experimental weight‑loss peptide retatrutide.
Retatrutide has not received approval from the TGA or any overseas regulator and cannot be legally prescribed or sold in Australia, underscoring that any such product on the market is unlawful and potentially dangerous.
