Ubisoft used its Gamescom 2026 press conference to reveal Rainbow Six Tactics, the first solo‑player title in the Rainbow Six line since 2008. The new entry moves away from the franchise’s traditional real‑time tactical shooter roots and adopts a turn‑based format reminiscent of XCOM. Game Director Martial Potron and Creative Director Elie Benhamou explained that the team re‑engineered the core "Rainbow Six DNA" – the emphasis on careful planning, operator specialization and realistic weapon handling – to fit a grid‑based, step‑by‑step combat system. Operators from Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, such as Ash, Thermite and Jäger, have been re‑imagined as turn‑based units, each retaining their signature abilities while gaining new tactical options suited to the slower pace.
A key feature highlighted at the showcase is permadeath, meaning that if an operator falls in battle, they are permanently removed from the campaign, raising the stakes for players accustomed to the series’ more forgiving health systems. Ubisoft confirmed that Rainbow Six Tactics will launch in 2027 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Ubisoft Connect and Steam. The announcement included a short gameplay trailer that demonstrated the grid layout, cover mechanics and the way operator abilities interact in a turn‑based context, giving fans a clear picture of how the familiar tactical tension translates to a new genre.

The developers also noted that the game will feature a narrative‑driven single‑player campaign, a departure from the primarily multiplayer focus of recent Rainbow Six titles. By returning to a story‑centric experience, Ubisoft hopes to attract both longtime fans of the franchise and players who prefer strategic, turn‑based gameplay.
