Palantir Technologies co-founder and CEO Alex Karp has publicly endorsed India's accelerating artificial intelligence push, describing the country as doing "very, very well" in the sector and identifying it as a potential global AI heavyweight. The endorsement from the head of one of the United States' most prominent defence- and enterprise-software firms adds an influential international voice to a growing chorus describing India as a credible challenger to established AI hubs in the US and China.
Speaking in remarks reported by NewKerala, Karp pointed to two specific pillars he believes give India a structural advantage: a deep reservoir of technical talent graduating from the country's engineering and technology institutions, and a national energy buildout that he suggested can supply the enormous electricity demands of large-scale AI data centres. AI training and inference workloads consume significant power, and Karp's pairing of talent and energy reflects the two bottlenecks most frequently cited by infrastructure planners as the binding constraints on AI capacity expansion.

The Palantir chief's remarks come at a moment of intensifying global competition over AI talent, chips, and data-centre capacity, with the United States, China, the European Union, and the Gulf states all courting Indian engineers and contractors. India's combination of a young, English-speaking technical workforce, a large domestic market for AI deployment across banking, healthcare, and government services, and expanding renewable and thermal power capacity has made it a frequent destination for partnerships with US technology firms, including Microsoft, Google, and chip designer Nvidia, all of which have announced India-linked projects. Karp's comments suggest Palantir sees similar opportunity, even as his company has historically focused on defence and intelligence clients in Western markets.
India's AI ecosystem has also drawn backing from Indian industrial houses including Reliance Industries and Tata Group, which have committed billions of dollars to build data-centre capacity and large language models tailored to Indian languages. The combination of private capital, public-sector demand, and a policy push toward digital public infrastructure has placed India among the fastest-growing AI markets globally. Karp's public endorsement is likely to be read by Indian policymakers and industry executives as further validation of a national strategy that has, until now, drawn more cautious assessments from some Western observers worried about compute access and regulatory friction.
The broader context for Karp's remarks is Palantir's own deepening engagement with governments. The Denver-headquartered firm, which builds data analytics and AI software used by militaries and large enterprises, has expanded its commercial footprint in recent years and has explored partnerships in allied countries seeking alternatives to US- or Chinese-built AI infrastructure.
