Heavy rain was falling in Mettamalai, Virudhunagar district, when a house wall collapsed. The family was asleep at the time, and the wall gave way during the downpour.
The teenager, identified as Muthuselvi, was 17 years old and studying in Class XII. Her mother, Solaiammal, suffered a leg injury. Local residents helped transport them to Government Hospital in Sattur. The pair was taken there for treatment.
Despite doctors' efforts, Muthuselvi died the following morning. The teenager later succumbed. The house wall collapse took place amid heavy rains in Tamil Nadu.
