The Samajwadi Party escalated its political offensive against Uttar Pradesh's ruling coalition on Saturday over the death of Gonda district trader Vinod Sahani, who died following injuries sustained in a dispute related to social media posts. Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav issued a statement on X condemning Nishad Party chief and State Cabinet Minister Sanjay Nishad for leading a protest against his own government. Yadav asserted that aligning with the ruling coalition provides allies with merely ceremonial positions devoid of actual honor or authority.
Elaborating on the opposition's stance, Samajwadi Party spokesperson Ashutosh Verma alleged that Sahani was targeted because he authored social media posts critical of the state government. Verma criticized local law enforcement and administrative leadership, specifically accusing the district magistrate and superintendent of police of taking no action against the accused. He further argued that Sanjay Nishad was staging public protests primarily due to fear of losing political support among Dalits, backward classes, and minority voters.

Verma also highlighted the political contradiction in Nishad maintaining his cabinet post while opposing government inaction, given that state Assembly elections are expected in approximately three months. Describing the current administration under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as operating on feudalistic principles, the opposition spokesperson claimed that instances of oppression against marginalized groups had risen sharply across the state.
