Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has refuted rumors alleging that the country declined external humanitarian assistance following catastrophic flash floods and landslides across the southern Terai plains and Kathmandu Valley.
Clarification on External Assistance
Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal issued a public clarification dismissing reports of declined aid as completely unfounded. The minister emphasized that the government of Nepal maintains an open, appreciative stance toward international solidarity during natural disasters and continues to coordinate closely with bilateral and multilateral partners.
Request for Specialized Technical Aid
Rather than generic consignments, Minister Khanal clarified that Nepal has formally requested specific, highly specialized assistance from neighboring partners India and China:
- Heavy engineering and de-watering gear: Specialized pumps and heavy machinery to drain submerged residential zones and clear major arterial highways blocked by massive mudslides.
- Structural restoration: Technical expertise to evaluate and reconstruct damaged bridges, culverts, and power distribution towers.
- Public health and agricultural rehabilitation: Supply of water purification units, field medical kits, and assistance to restore waterlogged agricultural tracts.
Khanal expressed gratitude for emergency relief already supplied by international agencies and stressed that structured bilateral cooperation remains critical for long-term disaster resilience.
