Speaking to IANS in New Delhi on September 12, Congress leader Udit Raj said improving India‑China ties will require more than high‑level meetings and statements, urging substantive dialogue on outstanding border and trade matters.
He pointed to the unresolved disputes over Aksai Chin, Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh, arguing that without open discussion of these areas it will be difficult to gauge any real improvement in bilateral relations.

Raj also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign‑policy approach, claiming the government has focused on personal image rather than expert advice, and warned that India’s growing trade deficit and dependence on Chinese imports—from raw materials to festival goods—necessitate stronger negotiating power and the full restoration of air links.
Addressing speculation about Congress chief minister Harish Rawat’s possible resignation, Raj said any allegations against an individual should be investigated under law but the party should not be held collectively responsible.
