Two Durga Puja committees in central Kolkata have chosen mishti as the focal point of their celebrations, turning sweets into a statement of cultural pride.

The Mishtanna Puran installation maps roughly a thousand years of milk, sugar and culinary ingenuity, tracing the evolution from ancient temple offerings to the iconic rosogolla and reminding residents that no other cuisine has made sweetness so central to Bengal’s identity.

The reportage is credited to Sujoy Dhar and Aaheli Chakraborty, with photography provided, and the displays have become a visual reminder of the region’s sweet heritage during the festival season.
