The Union government has transmitted a set of development demands raised by Baramulla Lok Sabha member Engineer Rashid to the appropriate Union ministries and departments, AIP chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said. Rashid submitted the demands to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in a letter dated April 15, 2026, seeking central support for infrastructure, health, education and cultural projects in his constituency, especially in remote and border areas.
The demands list includes funding for the construction and restoration of several bridges – Kharpora, Cherek‑e‑Lawoosi and Lach Drungsoo in Kupwara, as well as damaged bridges at Daand Kandal in Langate and Kralpora Market. Additional requests cover auditoriums in Bandipora, Baramulla, Beerwah and Kupwara, plus completion of an auditorium already built at Hangah in Handwara. In health, Rashid asks for a fully equipped cancer hospital, early operationalisation of the Trauma Hospital at Pattan, completion of pending health‑centre projects and a new maternity hospital. An education request seeks sanctioning of a degree college at Machil to improve higher‑education access in the border region.

According to Inam, the Ministry of Finance, via an Office Memorandum dated April 24, referred Rashid’s proposals to the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, as well as the Ministries of Culture, Health and Family Welfare, and Road Transport and Highways. Inam welcomed the referral as a key administrative step and said the AIP will monitor the progress of each project, urging the ministries to examine and act on the proposals within their jurisdictions.
