A sudden weather shift brought unseasonal snowfall to high‑altitude zones of North India in September, with fresh snow reported in Himachal Pradesh’s Manali and Rohtang Pass, Lahaul‑Spiti’s Baralacha, Shinkula and Ghepan Peak, and Chamba’s Sach Pass, where some sites recorded about four inches of snow.
Uttarakhand’s upper Chamoli and Niti Valley also saw fresh snow, while Kashmir’s Gulmarg, especially the Apharwat ski resort and Phase Two, received its first seasonal snowfall; Gurez Valley’s Kabul Gali recorded similar conditions, and Ladakh’s Kargil region, including Zojila Pass, Dras and surrounding heights, experienced a marked temperature drop.
