The Bombay High Court on Thursday issued a contempt notice to the Cine and Television Artistes Association (CINTAA), demanding an explanation for holding its elections on Oct. 20 and announcing the results.

CINTAA’s actions came despite explicit directions from the court to refrain from the poll, a move challenged by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) in a filed contempt petition that alleges deliberate defiance.

The court’s intervention underscores the judiciary’s willingness to enforce its orders against industry bodies, while the petition seeks appropriate sanctions if the alleged contempt is confirmed.
