India operates roughly 271 data centres with 1.57–1.79 GW of installed capacity, a figure projected to double within two years and potentially expand five-fold by 2030 as cloud, AI, and digital payments surge. The Ayeyarwaddy Times report places the digital economy on track for $1 trillion by 2030, backed by $176.3 billion in IT spending this fiscal year.

Global hyperscalers are accelerating investment. Amazon, Google, and Microsoft are expanding footprints nationwide, with Google proposing a $15 billion, one-gigawatt campus in Visakhapatnam — its largest outside the United States — which would also anchor Andhra Pradesh's planned AI City.

Mumbai leads with about 650 MW of IT load, supported by competitive power, submarine cable access, and robust connectivity. Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Kolkata collectively host the majority of remaining capacity.
