Beijing-based Sugon, operating under the Hygon group, has launched the N50 Pro laptop, branded the 'Thread Beast,' featuring what it describes as the world's first 64-thread mobile CPU. The machine ships with up to 128 GB of RAM and up to 8 TB of storage, configurations that exceed the thread counts typically found in current Intel Core Ultra and AMD Ryzen mobile processors, which top out at around 32 threads in mainstream laptops.
The N50 Pro also integrates a 16 GB GPU, signalling Sugon's intent to pitch the laptop at AI development workloads and professional content creation rather than general consumer use. By doubling the thread count of comparable x86 mobile chips, Sugon is positioning the N50 Pro as a desktop-replacement mobile workstation for users running parallelised tasks such as model training, simulation, video rendering and large-scale data analysis.

The launch comes against a backdrop of expanding Chinese efforts to build competitive domestic silicon. Hygon, Sugon's parent entity, has been associated with x86-architecture CPU development based on technology licensed through its joint venture with AMD spin-off GlobalFoundries' IP ecosystem, allowing Sugon to design high-core-count chips for both server and now mobile form factors.
For professionals, the headline specifications translate into tangible workflow advantages. A 64-thread CPU paired with 128 GB of system memory and 8 TB of onboard storage allows a single portable machine to handle datasets that previously required rack-mounted workstations, while the 16 GB GPU provides sufficient VRAM for moderately sized AI models.
The pricing, international availability and exact CPU architecture details were not disclosed in the initial announcement. Sugon has not yet confirmed whether the N50 Pro will be sold outside China, though the product is expected to draw scrutiny from competitors and export-control watchers given the wider strategic context of China's semiconductor self-sufficiency push.
