As part of the incoming backroom appointments, former Sri Lanka pace spearhead Chaminda Vaas has been shortlisted to take over as the franchise's new bowling coach. Vaas, who previously served as fast bowling coach for the Sri Lankan and Irish national teams, brings extensive international tactical experience to manage Delhi's pace battery.
The managerial overhaul also involves changes at the top of the team leadership hierarchy. Former India captain and batting stalwart Sourav Ganguly, who has served as Director of Cricket for the franchise's ownership group, is expected to assume direct responsibilities as head coach for the upcoming IPL cycle.
Additionally, veteran Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra is in discussions for a specialized spin bowling consultancy and mentorship role, completing a revamped backroom team focused on technical preparation and tactical planning ahead of the 2027 season.
