According to recent reporting, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have secured an edge by confirming foreign university projects in the pipeline. These initiatives typically involve the creation of "University Townships" – integrated campuses that combine academic facilities, research labs, residential zones and commercial amenities, often backed by foreign funding and expertise.
The six leading states are expected to benefit from increased student inflow, research collaborations, and ancillary economic activity. Their advantage stems from proactive policy frameworks, land allocation strategies, and incentives designed to entice overseas institutions seeking a foothold in India's growing higher‑education market.
In contrast, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have not announced comparable foreign university projects, putting them at a disadvantage in the national push to internationalise higher education.
