The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) announced a comprehensive redevelopment of New Jalpaiguri Railway Station, aiming to transform it into a state‑of‑the‑art, passenger‑friendly hub. The master plan covers new arrival and departure terminals, an elevated road, podium parking, an air‑concourse, additional foot over bridges and platform upgrades, alongside improved vehicular circulation and pedestrian drop‑off zones.
During a recent inspection, NFR Construction General Manager Ashish Bansal, accompanied by senior officials, reviewed progress on key components such as the terminal buildings, surface roads and parking facilities. He emphasized strict adherence to safety, quality standards and the project’s timeline, urging close coordination among executing agencies to avoid delays.

The redevelopment is part of NFR’s broader strategy to strengthen rail connectivity across the seven districts of West Bengal, five districts of Bihar and the Northeastern states. By enhancing infrastructure at New Jalpaiguri, the railway aims to boost passenger convenience, streamline freight movement and reinforce the station’s role as a strategic gateway to the region’s economic corridors.
