The West Bengal School Service Commission (WB SSC) is set to issue a reworked merit list for the ongoing recruitment of 12,445 higher secondary school teachers across state-aided institutions. The restructuring comes after the state government adjusted the reservation quota allocated for Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates, scaling it back significantly from 17 percent to 7 percent for this hiring exercise.
The sharp reduction in reserved seats is expected to lead to a major shakeup in candidate rankings and eligibility. Commission details indicate that the re-evaluated selection metrics could alter the prospective appointment and relative merit status of at least 3,586 shortlisted candidates who were provisionally selected under the previous quota structure.

The decision to alter the merit list aims to align the state's higher secondary hiring framework with modified legislative and administrative guidelines governing public employment reservations. SSC officials are auditing category lists and candidate scores to finalize the revised standings prior to public publication.
Following the publication of the updated candidate shortlist, which is slated for September, the commission plans to resume the recruitment pipeline. Fresh candidate interviews will recommence shortly after the release of the reworked merit list to complete the selection process for the 12,445 vacant teaching positions.
