IDBI Bank officially inaugurated an Interpoint 55 Braille embosser at the headquarters of the National Association of the Blind (NAB) India in Mumbai on Thursday, marking a significant step toward enhancing educational resources for visually impaired learners across the country.
The Interpoint 55, a high‑speed embossing machine capable of producing up to 55 pages per minute, will enable NAB India to generate Braille textbooks, examination papers and reference materials locally, reducing reliance on imported or outsourced solutions that often cause delays and increase costs.
Bank officials, including IDBI’s senior vice‑president for corporate social responsibility, Mr. Rajesh Kumar, highlighted the partnership as part of the bank’s broader inclusive‑growth agenda. "Our investment in assistive technology reflects a commitment to remove barriers for the blind community, ensuring they receive timely, quality educational content," Kumar said during the ceremony.
Representatives from NAB India, led by its president, Ms. Anjali Mehta, demonstrated the machine’s capabilities by embossing a sample science textbook chapter. Mehta noted that the embosser will allow the organization to meet the rising demand for Braille materials, especially with the upcoming academic year and new curriculum revisions.
The launch aligns with recent government initiatives encouraging private sector participation in disability‑focused projects. Industry analysts expect that the availability of such domestic embossing technology could spur similar collaborations, potentially benefitting thousands of visually impaired students in schools and higher‑education institutions nationwide.
