Hyderabad is enduring an unseasonal spell of heat and humidity during the monsoon, with Thursday’s maximum reaching 34.5 °C – 3.5 °C above the typical 31 °C high – and night‑time lows of 26.1 °C, 3.7 °C above normal.
The lingering moisture has left residents battling discomfort after dark; high humidity and mosquitoes have made sleep difficult, while the sun’s intensity from around 8 a.m. has kept daytime temperatures sweltering.

The weather surge has driven electricity demand to unprecedented monsoon levels, with peak load climbing to 4,022 MW on Sept 15 and 4,176 MW on Sept 16, compared with 3,428 MW and 3,498 MW on the same dates last year – an increase of roughly 600 MW. Daily consumption also rose to 76.92 million units and 82.64 million units respectively, up from 68.28 million and 70.15 million units a year earlier.
