KBS Sidhu, who served as Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar and later as Special Chief Secretary of Punjab, used the occasion of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s 94th birth anniversary on 26 September 2026 to ask the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to remove the legal stay that bars his portrait from being displayed in the Central Sikh Museum.
Sidhu also proposed an alternative form of tribute: establishing a Manmohan Singh School of Economics within SGPC’s own World University, a suggestion aimed at honouring the former premier’s economic legacy without relying on the contested museum display.

The current stay, which prevents the portrait’s exhibition, remains in effect, prompting Sidhu’s public appeal to the SGPC to reconsider the restriction and allow the portrait to be reinstated as part of the museum’s collection.
