Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Govind Singh Dotasra has leveled serious political allegations against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing the party of resorting to political coercion and "resort fencing" of newly elected independent councilors following the conclusion of local body elections in Sikar, according to coverage by The Free Press Journal.
Addressing media personnel in Jaipur, Dotasra claimed that the BJP, having failed to secure an outright majority in several municipal councils and ward boards in Sikar district, deployed state administrative machinery and financial incentives to sequester independent winners in private hotels and resorts to prevent them from supporting Congress candidates during mayoral and chairperson voting.
Local civic and municipal council elections in Rajasthan often hinge on independent candidates, who hold the balance of power in hung urban local bodies. Dotasra asserted that local Congress leadership holds adequate grassroots support to form governing boards in multiple municipalities and demanded that district election officers ensure video-recorded, transparent voting procedures during the election of municipal board chairpersons.
Rejecting the allegations, Rajasthan BJP spokespersons countered that independent councilors were voluntarily aligning with the ruling party to ensure coordinated urban development funding and infrastructure support from the state government. The political confrontation highlights intense competition between both parties to consolidate grassroots control across Shekhawati and central Rajasthan.
