Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Friday rejected Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s resolution on restoring statehood, asking the CM to explain why he remained in the NDA government after the autonomy resolution was “thrown into a dustbin.” Sharma said the CM had been part of the NDA when the earlier resolution was discarded and demanded clarification.
Sharma reiterated that the BJP is willing to debate the statehood issue alone but will oppose any attempt to bring Article 370 or the autonomy resolution into the discussion. He described the current resolution as “controversial and disputed,” noting that the party had previously torn up the autonomy resolution and rejected it outright.

The opposition leader also pressed the Congress leadership for a clear stance on the autonomy resolution and Article 370, questioning whether senior party figures support the resolutions or the government’s position. He challenged the government to a debate on statehood, accusing it of using the issue to mask governance failures, and said the BJP will continue its protest until Congress clarifies its position and the government answers the raised questions.
