The YSR Congress Party criticized the Andhra Pradesh government after the High Court struck down orders granting 34 per cent reservation for Backward Classes in rural local bodies and 33.33 per cent in urban bodies. Former ministers Dharmana Prasada Rao and Chelluboyina Srinivasa Venugopala Krishna asserted that the verdict exposed the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu administration's policy flaws.
Dharmana stated that aggregate vertical quotas for SCs, STs, and BCs cannot breach the 50 per cent ceiling without a valid legal foundation. Questioning why the governing coalition avoided pursuing Ninth Schedule constitutional protection, YSRCP leaders demanded that the ruling alliance directly allocate at least 34 per cent of its election seats to Backward Classes in the approaching local elections.
