Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee said his party office on Camac Street in Kolkata was ransacked in the early hours of Thursday, around 4 a.m., and that several staff members were physically assaulted during the incident.
Banerjee, who heads the party’s youth wing and is a close confidante of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, described the episode as a coordinated assault aimed at intimidating the party’s grassroots network. He alleged that the perpetrators were linked to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the principal opposition force in the state, and demanded a swift police probe.

The Camac Street office serves as a regional hub for TMC’s organisational activities, housing campaign material, voter databases and a small team of full‑time workers. According to Banerjee, the intruders not only smashed furniture and equipment but also threatened and physically struck staff, leaving several members with minor injuries that required medical attention.
West Bengal’s political landscape has been marked by heightened confrontations between the ruling TMC and the BJP, especially in the run‑up to the next state assembly polls. While the BJP has not issued an official response to Banerjee’s allegations, party spokespeople have previously dismissed similar accusations as politically motivated, a pattern that adds to the charged atmosphere surrounding the claim.
Kolkata police have registered a case and are reportedly reviewing CCTV footage from nearby establishments. Banerjee urged law‑enforcement agencies to treat the matter with urgency, warning that any lapse could further erode public confidence in the state’s security apparatus.
