On Friday, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi ordered the suspension of two senior officials – Transport Secretary Arun Kumar Biswal and Choudwar Circle Jail Senior Superintendent Sujit Kumar Raul – after both remained in custody for more than 48 hours following their arrests.
Biswal was arrested on allegations that he entered a young female colleague’s residence late at night, caused a disturbance and misbehaved with her. Raul’s arrest stems from a separate case involving the escape of two Bihari prisoners from Choudwar jail; he also faces a fresh FIR filed on September 22 over alleged forgery of the jail’s minute book, based on a complaint by suspended jailer Santoshini Das.

The Chief Minister’s Office said the suspension orders were issued at the chief minister’s direction, noting that the two cases are unrelated. Both officials remain incarcerated while investigations proceed.
