India's Department of Telecommunications has mandated caller name display on all calls beginning November 1, aiming to improve identification for recipients.
The Calling Name Presentation feature will show the caller's name alongside the number on the recipient's screen, initially rolling out on 4G networks before expanding to other versions, and will be offered only in paid plans with an opt‑out for users employing line identification restriction, ensuring clearer recognition.
This policy balances clearer caller recognition with privacy protection, allowing users to opt out while still benefiting from enhanced name visibility on their screens and supporting overall call transparency.
