Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Fleet Support Ship-1 at Hindustan Shipyard in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday, marking a key milestone in the vessel’s development. The ceremony highlighted the commissioning of the upgraded Slipway-4, which now features extended length and enhanced load-bearing capability.
Supported by the massive Goliath crane, the slipway will enable the shipyard to construct and launch vessels of up to 45,000 DWT, expanding its capacity to build larger naval and commercial ships. This enhancement positions Hindustan Shipyard to meet growing demand for larger platforms, reinforcing the nation’s strategic maritime capabilities. The Fleet Support Ship-1 will serve as a logistics platform, bolstering the Indian Navy’s operational reach.
