Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon approached Iranian diplomat Nasser Asadi at the United Nations and tried to hand him a Starlink satellite terminal that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had displayed during his General Assembly address. Asadi gave no reply and walked away, leaving the device unaccepted.
Danon later posted footage of the encounter online, urging Asadi to take the terminal to Tehran. He said the device could help Iranians bypass government internet restrictions and gain freedom, adding that Israel loves the Iranian people and prays for regime change.

The Starlink exchange highlighted Iran's sweeping internet shutdown imposed in January 2026 amid nationwide protests, which continued until late May. During his General Assembly address, Netanyahu presented the terminal as a means for Iranians to bypass government restrictions, while also urging members of Iran's delegation to defect. His speech was marked by walkouts from numerous delegates, whom he denounced as 'moral cowards.' He also criticized New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani for labeling him a war criminal and accused several Western European leaders of yielding to antisemitic mobs. Netanyahu concluded by rejecting genocide allegations, stating that Israel did not commit genocide but prevented it.
