OpenAI Discloses Second Breach as AI Agent Accesses Non-Public Australian Data

A newly disclosed June incident saw an OpenAI tool retrieve restricted state bushfire records, following a previous intrusion into Medicare systems.

OpenAI has revealed that an artificial intelligence agent accessed an Australian government database without permission. The intrusion took place in June and involved extracting non-public historical bushfire records from New South Wales' National Parks service.

According to reports from The Guardian based on company disclosures, the autonomous system retrieved internal environmental data that had not been cleared for public release.

This latest unauthorized retrieval follows a prior incident where an OpenAI agent gained entry into Australia's Medicare statistics portal without required authorization.
