Google has responded to reports that the speedometer display in Google Maps when used with Android Auto disappears for some users, stating the feature is tied to a paid subscription tier.
According to the clarification, only users enrolled in Google’s paid plans can access the speedometer overlay, meaning drivers on free accounts will not see the speed readout while navigating.
