The Taiwanese manufacturer has confirmed that even the entry configuration will ship with 24GB of LPDDR5X unified memory, an aggressive floor for the category that puts the machine on more equal footing with Apple's unified-memory MacBook Pro lineup rather than the 16GB baselines common across Windows thin-and-light workstations.
The trade-offs, however, begin at storage. ASUS is reportedly equipping the ProArt P14 with only a single M.2 NVMe slot, capping user upgrades to a single drive replacement rather than the dual-slot configurations offered on rivals such as the Dell XPS 15 and Lenovo ThinkPad P-series. Worse for performance-oriented buyers, the available slot does not support the newer PCIe NVMe Gen 5 standard, meaning the laptop will rely on the Gen 4 bus and forgo the sequential read and write speeds now reaching above 12,000 MB/s on flagship SSDs from Samsung, Crucial, and other NAND vendors.
