Apple rolled out iOS 27 to users yesterday, spotlighting a revamped Siri AI chatbot as the system’s headline feature. Beneath the headline, the update also conceals a nostalgic companion – the dogcow.
The dogcow, dubbed Clarus, first appeared as a pixel‑art glyph in the original Mac OS of the 1980s, where it indicated page orientation for printing. Its quirky dog‑cow blend quickly earned a cult following among Mac developers, and although Apple later removed the glyph, the character has endured in Apple lore.

In iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 the dogcow resurfaces as an easter egg. To view it, open Settings → Appearance → Liquid Glass, scroll past the “The Rainbow” heading, continue scrolling until the letters “Moof!” appear, and the preview will display a modern rendering of Clarus looking into water.
