Iran opened the match with a narrow 18‑17 lead at the half‑time break after forcing an all‑out on India, but the Indian defence responded with two super‑tackle points, eleven outs and three bonus points in the first half, and added a decisive all‑out in the second half when Rahul’s tackle gave India a 29‑24 edge. The contest remained level at 20‑20 before India pulled ahead, ultimately sealing the victory and delivering the fourth gold for the Indian contingent at these Games.
