At the Odisha Literary Festival 2026, historian Anirudh Kanisetti highlighted the crucial role played by queens in managing Odisha’s diplomatic alliances and statecraft. Speaking at the annual literary gathering organized by The New Indian Express, Kanisetti provided key insights into the state's historical legacy, stressing that royal women were far more central to political governance and external relations than traditionally portrayed.
Kanisetti elaborated on how Odisha’s queens actively influenced royal courts and regional diplomacy. According to the historian, royal women were key players in establishing and maintaining diplomatic ties across dynasties, serving as vital links in state affairs during pivotal periods of the region's history.

Turning his focus to regional heritage and monumental architecture, Kanisetti also addressed the structural uniqueness of the famous Lingaraj Temple. He noted that the monument occupies a distinctive space in Indian architectural history, refusing to fit cleanly into conventional categorization frameworks used by historical scholars.
Specifically, the historian pointed out that the architectural form of the Lingaraj Temple fits neither the North Indian style nor the South Indian model. This architectural independence underscores Odisha's distinct cultural and artistic evolution, which developed its own indigenous design traditions rather than merely adopting external influences.
