Opposition parties are readying a third attempt to initiate impeachment proceedings against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, with fresh notices expected to be submitted in both Houses of Parliament in the coming days. The coordinated push marks the most sustained parliamentary challenge to a sitting CEC in recent memory.
Congress leader Udit Raj framed the effort as transcending party lines, arguing that constitutional mechanisms must be fully utilised to protect democratic institutions because Parliament was no longer having the desired impact. DMK spokesperson T.K.S. Elangovan confirmed his party's backing, citing leadership's categorical statement yesterday that Kumar should be removed from office.

Bihar Minister and BJP leader Ram Kripal Yadav dismissed the looming motion, asserting it would be defeated just as previous impeachment attempts against other officials have failed. Jharkhand Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi separately criticised Rahul Gandhi's remarks on the CEC, contending the Congress leader's statements were not finding public acceptance.
