The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will start disbursing roughly ₹70 crore to 5.1 lakh schoolchildren this week for uniforms and school bags. The payment will cover essential attire and accessories for the new academic year.
Each pupil will receive ₹1,370 directly into their bank accounts through DBT, while schools have taken over the procurement and distribution of notebooks and stationery. This centralized approach aims to streamline supply and reduce out‑of‑pocket costs for families.
The initiative reflects the MCD’s focus on ensuring equitable access to school essentials, a factor linked to higher enrollment and retention rates in the capital’s public education system.
