The Indian government has rebutted opposition allegations and defended the recent meeting between Home Minister Prabhu Singh Jaishankar and U.S. Representative Marco Rubio in Mumbai. Officials maintain the gathering was conducted according to established protocols for hosting foreign dignitaries away from the capital.

The two leaders are scheduled to make back-to-back separate visits to Mumbai next week. The government has pointed to the longstanding practice of welcoming foreign leaders outside Delhi as justification for the arrangement.
