The IMD expects Delhi-NCR to see generally cloudy skies on Tuesday with isolated spells of very light to light rain from the forenoon through the afternoon, while temperatures hover between 32‑34°C maximum and 23‑25°C minimum. Gusty winds could reach 60 km/h, prompting authorities to advise residents to exercise caution during any adverse conditions.
In addition to the capital region, the department has issued thunderstorm and rain alerts for 20 states, covering areas such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka, Telangana, Gujarat and Maharashtra. The warning underscores the possibility of lightning, heavy showers and strong gusts across this wide geographical belt.

The IMD also noted that the southwest monsoon is likely to begin withdrawing around September 19, with the retreat expected to start from west Rajasthan. Although the monsoon has weakened and the nation faces a 15% cumulative rainfall deficit, several districts in the western, southern and northeastern zones remain deficient, yet additional rainfall is forecast for the week in the west, northwest and parts of the southern peninsula.
