A group of more than 400 Indian-origin students, researchers and alumni from universities across 27 countries has condemned opposition protests against the Election Commission of India. The signatories are based at institutions including MIT, Oxford and Harvard.

In their statement, the scholars described the protests as an attempt to undermine public confidence in constitutional institutions and delegitimise democratic processes. The appeal carries the headline “Spare India from Anarchy.”

The scholars framed the demonstrations as a threat to constitutional stability and democratic legitimacy, saying they seek to undermine public confidence in India’s electoral machinery.
