The Uttarakhand Cabinet has officially approved a significant increase in the monthly honorarium for MBBS interns serving across state government medical colleges, raising the payment from ₹17,000 to ₹25,000 per month.
The decision, chaired during a cabinet meeting in Dehradun, applies to undergraduate medical interns completing mandatory one-year clinical rotations at state institutions, including Government Doon Medical College, Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Government Institute of Medical Science and Research in Srinagar, and Soban Singh Jeena Government Institute in Almora. The revision aligns the state's medical internship compensation closer to central institutional benchmarks.
In a parallel employment decision, the cabinet sanctioned 243 out-of-turn government posts dedicated to medal-winning sportspersons under the provisions of the Uttarakhand Sports Policy-2021. The special recruitment drive spans six major state departments, including Police, Youth Welfare, Forest, Education, Transport, and Panchayati Raj.
Under the policy framework, athletes who have secured medals at the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, National Games, or recognized international championships will receive direct appointments into designated grade posts based on their achievement tiers, fulfilling long-standing demands for post-competitive career security.
